I chose Modish as the name for the website as a reminder of who I am as a person. It reminds me of my childhood in Indonesia. I was growing up with my grandmother who was a seamstress and who taught me the value of feeling and looking good. While there are online platforms that share a similar effort and dedication in making us special, our website also aspires for cultural dialogues and engagement. For this reason, in our gallery of fashion styles, we want to recognize cultural heritage as well as the fusion of ethnic, Western, and Islamic styles as a source of inspiration. I will also share ideas and tips that are useful in making ourselves feel and look good, such as “Fashion Hacks”, “Tip of the Week”, and “Favorite Thing.”
Modish’s vision is to cultivate the value of feeling and looking good. While this vision is universal, I am particularly interested in voicing ideas pertaining to Muslim fashion. Central to Muslim fashion is both the inward and outward expression. Modish attempts to contribute to female inward transformation as well as outward beautiful appearance. In other word, it promotes feeling and looking good in and out. Who does not want to feel and look good in and out?
